“Came out to get rid of the yellow jacket nest by our front door. Being “dive-bombed” at times
when we came in and out. Scott sprayed them and in a day or so they were gone. Very
professional, informational, and cordial when I spoke with him.”

HOW TO GET RID OF ANTS IN YOUR HOME

Stop the stream of ants; contact Wolverine Pest Services.

Small, strong bugs called ants live in big groups that can have over a million members. Even though they are small, they are super strong. They can carry things that are way heavier than they are. Ants also have a really good sense of smell, and it is even better than dogs! This helps them find food or waste in places you might not think of. They can get in through tiny spaces, so it can be hard to get them out once they are in your house or business.

Do you have ants in your Eaton Rapids home? Wolverine Pest Control can help. We provide a range of services for tackling ant problems in Michigan. We know a lot about ants and have taken care of many different types of ant issues. Ants are all around, but that doesn’t make them
easy to remove. Our team is here to help with any problem you may have.

What are ants?

You can probably recognize an ant when you see one. These bugs are incredibly common and can be found all over the world. Ants all have the same three parts to their bodies, six legs, and bent antennae. But, they can look different and have different preferences for food and behavior. Some ants are more dangerous than others, so it’s important to know which ones to watch out for.

What do ants typically look like?

Ants come in many different sizes. They can be as small as 1 millimeter or as big as 30 millimeters. Most species of ants have:
● Bent antennae
● A slim area in the middle of their body
● Three body parts
● They also have chewing mouthparts.
Most ants are brown, black, yellow, or red. It is hard to tell what kind of ant it is just by looking at the color. To find out, you can read more about ant species, where they live, and if any of them can be found inside your house.

Common ant behaviors

The habits and tendencies of ants can vary, but some common actions amongst most species are listed below.
● They consider themselves to be part of a whole and often manage tasks as a group
● Ants leave pheromones on surfaces and food that they touch, which is a signal to other ants that an object in question is safe
● They pile food or other items together to build nests or other organized structures
● They don’t like to live in super icy climates like Antarctica, Greenland, and Iceland. Otherwise, you can find ants anywhere else in the world.
● They usually eat sugary substances as well as plant sap and other small insects
● They carry whatever food they find back to their nests and can carry food or other objects that are over 10 times their weight Ants think of themselves as part of a big group. To treat them well, it helps to understand how they think.

Types of Ants

There are more than 12,000 types of ants around the world. Even though they all have certain things in common, they can be different from one another too. Here are a few examples of the most common kinds of ants.

Little black ants

Black ants are really tiny and usually black. They live in lots of places, but mostly near the ocean. They like to be outside from June to August. They build nests in places like woods, under rocks, or in rotting wood or walls inside or outside of buildings. Little black ants have pointy parts on their bodies that can hurt people, but they are too tiny to do any serious damage. They eat things like oils, meats, fruits, other bugs, and things that grow in gardens. Once these tiny ants have moved in, it can be difficult to get them to leave. To stop them from coming into your house, fill in any cracks or holes in the walls, keep firewood away from the house, and look around to see if there are any ant nests close to your home.

Carpenter ants

Carpenter ants are usually big–about half to almost three-quarters of an inch. Their heads look like hearts, and they can be red, brown, or black. Most of them don’t have wings, but the ones that hatch in the spring and summer called flying carpenter ants, do. They eat sweet stuff,
nectar, and other bugs, like other kinds of ants.

Carpenter ants and termites are both small insects that like to live in damp wood. You can tell them apart by their antennae (carpenter ants have bent antennae and termites have straight antennae) and by the tunnels they make (carpenter ants make clean tunnels while termites
make messy tunnels). If they are around your home, they can cause damage by digging a lot of tunnels. To protect your home, you should inspect it for signs of activity and get rid of excess moisture.

Fire ants

The red imported fire ant can be recognized by its reddish brown or yellow color and its tiny size (1-5 mm). It lives in warm areas in Central and South America and cooler climates in North America. It likes to eat poultry and plant grain. Fire ants can be mean. The worker ants have stingers and they can bite too if they need to be steady. If you don’t bother them, they won’t bother you. But if they do sting or bite you, the place where it happened might get infected if you scratch it.

Argentine ants

Argentine ants are famous for walking in a very long line. They can be found in the southern part of California. They are dark and tiny, about 3mm big. They go inside homes in search of warmth, food, and water, so you may find them in your kitchen or bathroom. They like sweet
things like eggs and yolks, syrups, juices, dead bugs, and gross stuff like poop and vomit. Argentine ants can join together to make giant colonies. These colonies can be mean to other bug types and be a problem if they come into your house. They don't sting, but they can bite. It doesn’t hurt much, though, because they are so small.

Signs of an ant Infestation

No matter what species you have around your home, there are some common signs of an ant infestation can include:
● Ant trails or lines of ants
● Ant mounds around your property
● Ants in your trees
● Groups of ants on your countertops enjoying discarded leftovers

Many kinds of ants can be a problem in homes. Some of them, like carpenter ants, can cause damage to the house. Fire ants can even hurt people. Pharaoh ants can spread diseases like salmonella and strep. If you have ants in your home, it can be very messy and make your food
unsafe. Here are some tips for getting rid of ant colonies and preventing them from coming back.

How do I get rid of ants in my house?

You can try some easy methods if you have an ant problem. To get rid of them, try mixing boiling water, vinegar, and baking soda and spraying it on spots where you have seen ants. You can also use Diatomaceous Earth in places where ants might get in. To keep ants away, you can use Borax or cornstarch in areas where you have seen ants. Make sure your home does not have any food lying around, and store your food in sealed containers. You can also seal up any cracks or crevices in your walls and floors using caulk or other sealants. These techniques can be used outside your house, too, to keep ants away. They can help with many different kinds of ants, but they won't get rid of them all. If you have a lot of ants or think there are multiple colonies around your home, you might want to call a pest control expert. They might be able to help you get rid of the problem.

“These folks are thorough; that is they definitely go the extra mile to complete the task
at hand. My wife and I run a house of hospitality for the homeless and just like anyone
who hosts travelers is subject to bedbugs so was our house. We have hired Wolverine
Pest Services twice over the last couple of years (it was over a year apart so not the
same bedbug episode) and both times they have been exceedingly complete when
applying the liquid and aerosol. They were also easy to reach on the phone and very
friendly to interact with.”
